Adobe adds exciting new 3D printing capabilities to today’s Photoshop CC update…
With today’s unveiling of the new 3D printing capabilities in the latest Adobe Photoshop CC update, Adobe hope their industry-standard image manipulation software will also become the go-to tool for anyone who wants to print a 3D model from now on.
Available immediately as part of a major update to Adobe Creative Cloud, the new 3D printing capabilities integrated into Photoshop CC enable users to easily and reliably build, refine, preview, prepare and print 3D designs.
Print-ready 3D models can be created from scratch inside Photoshop CC, or imported from another 3D modelling application and then edited using the tools that are familiar to any Photoshop regular.
If You Can Imagine It, You Can 3D Print It
“The new 3D print capabilities in Photoshop CC take the guess work out of printing 3D models for everyone,” says Winston Hendrickson, VP of products at Adobe’s Creative Media Solutions department. “Before today there was a gap between the content produced by 3D modeling tools and what 3D printers need in order to deliver high quality results. Now, by simply clicking ‘Print’ in Photoshop CC, creatives can bring 3D designs to the physical world.”
Adobe Photoshop CC now supports the most popular desktop 3D printers, such as the Makerbot Replicator range shown below.

“With the huge adoption of Adobe Photoshop CC, this announcement means that a massive influx of people will now have access to 3D modeling tools,” notes Bre Pettis, CEO of MakerBot. “I can’t wait to see what they design with Photoshop CC and create with their MakerBot Replicator 3D printer!”

this is good news, I need a large ventilation grill to go on my wall, it does not exist at present so maybe I can design and create my own. What are the maximum finished sizes of a plastic item.
It all depends on the type of 3D printer being used, John.
That is so clever!
It’s interesting how Adobe have taken that step from being a 2D ‘company’ to entering into the 3D world. It will be great for stop motion animator a and product designers to see what designs could look like and function like before being produced. However as with any new steps in technology this could create another avenue for replicas and fake products to be created if acquired by the ‘wrong’ hands.
I can’t believe how fast 3D printing is advancing, it’s the real leap forward of our age 🙂
So by the end of 2015 3d printers will be available at a nice price for most print companies to buy without having a big bank loan!
