Jo Downs is one of the world’s leading fused glass designers. Her ‘Handmade with love in Cornwall’ ethos is perfectly complimented by Solopress’ meticulously crafted printing…
Jo Downs Handmade Glass have been based in Launceston, Cornwall for 10 years. In that time, Jo alongside her studio team has established herself as a major player in fused glass design and her work has featured in hotels, cruise ships and business premises around the UK and abroad.
These prestigious commissions have included the P&O cruise liners Arcadia and Ventura, Munich Park Hilton, JW Marriott Hotel Cairo, Prezzo Restaurants and Tresco Isles of Scilly Flying Boat Club.
Alongside this, Jo designs and makes a range of giftware and smaller pieces such as dishes, hangings, coasters and even custom made wall art that are sold in her own galleries around Cornwall in Launceston, St Ives and Padstow and online at www.jodowns.com.
She also supplies her glass to around 200 shops and galleries nationwide including to the National Trust, Eden Project and the Glorious Britain shops located in the Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted airports.
Handmade To Measure
Everything that is made by Jo Downs is made by hand. This means that she can customise sizes, colours and designs to suit personal taste. Whether it is a set of coasters or a huge glass window, she can take on just about anything. You can see examples of Jo’s incredible glass designs on her Flickr page.
Jo is usually present at most craft fairs around the country. This means there is a demand for a lot of printed promotional material. In charge of this is graphic designer, James Doy.
“I chose Solopress.com after having a ‘mixed’ relationship with other printers in the past. The quick turnaround times caught my eye so I sent off for a sample pack and was amazed by the quality,” explains James Doy. “Since then we have had a few small jobs printed with them such as flyers, leaflets and product tags (labels) and recently a 16 page brochure that we needed re-printing very quickly as demand for them was bigger than expected. Within 48 hours of sending the artwork they had been delivered which was almost impossibly quick as the last print run – with a different printer – took nearly 3 weeks. Needless to say I won’t be using anyone else. The service and support from Solopress are top notch.”
I think anyone who has the talent to produce such lovely work is very lucky.
I love the work jo downs has done, she is amazingly talented and wish I could afford to pick up some unique pieces from her.
