Solopress came out on top in more ways than one for this Reading based alt-folk band.
Posters are a creative and effective way of publicising events and announcing marketing campaigns. And when Reading-based The Seasons in Shorthand, an alt-folk band, needed some posters printed, they took to Google and found Solopress.
Promotional Printing
The promotional material was needed for a show at the O2 Academy in Oxford; and fast! Lee explains “I had not used Solopress before, I did a quick Google search for printing services and there they were. I was worried that short notice would come with a high price tag or low quality but we are more than pleasantly surprised to have found this was not the case.”
What Shall We Do With The Drunken Salesman?
The artwork for this special edition print was created by the female vocalist in the band. Kimberley Jenna Woolf, is a talented freelance designer and illustrator who works with a range of processes including watercolour, paint pens, pencils, ink and CAD, producing some unique and original designs. her inspiration comes from one of the band’s newest songs titled ‘What Shall We Do With The Drunken Salesman?” Lee explains ”the concept of a forlorn battery chicken type character holding a bottle of booze and clearing out his desk, all ties in nicely with the sentiment of the song, which Kim has illustrated beautifully.”
The gloss posters have so far been distributed at two concerts; the O2 Academy Oxford and at Hampshire’s Octoberfest in Basingstoke where they have been well received, gaining compliments on both the design and the print quality.
When asked how they found their first experience with Solopress Lee wrote “It was the first time I’d used your service and I was absolutely delighted with it. Very fast delivery with excellent tracking data and the print and paper quality was superb. We will definitely be using your services again.”
Further Printing Projects
As a band, The Seasons In Shorthand like the idea of coming up with more special edition prints relating to their songs or to specific lyrics from them. They are all in agreement that having the talents of Kim on hand to illustrate them is a huge plus. Lee is very much looking forward to to presenting a whole series of prints once the band has completed some recording – future plans will include flyers and posters to promote their music and gigs.
Next Up Oxjam, Then To The Studio!
Having been pleasantly busy with gigs lately, The Seasons in Shorthand are excited to be playing in Reading on 18th October 2014 at the Oxjam music festival. This gig is the local arm of a nationwide event that’s technically the biggest music festival in the world, in aid of Oxfam.
Keeping it local, this busy group will also be appearing at Reading’s Facebar for their Halloween special on the 31st, followed by Brunswick Hove on 26th November, then it’s off toBasingstoke on 29th November. Once their live commitments have been honoured, they will be heading into the studio, hoping to release a single or EP in the coming months.
