Time to appreciate these cool TV Show title fonts

With the rise of Netflix and other popular video streaming platforms, TV shows and series have become an essential part of modern culture.

Unlike in movie poster designs, where you can sometimes notice free fonts, TV series titles try to be unique and differ from each other.

The Walking Dead

True fans of The Walking Dead have already noticed how the show’s logo decayed through seasons, to portray the change and deterioration of the human society. Thanks to the grotesque sans serif font Tungsten Black, published by Hoefler & Co, the effect was extremely effective.

Breaking Bad

Breaking Bad is a must-watch for everyone into a quality crime drama. It is widely classed as one of the greatest television shows of all time and most-watched cable shows on American television. In 2013, Breaking Bad even set the Guinness World Record as the “Highest-Rated TV Series” of all time.

The title logo features symbols of chemical elements from the Periodic Table in green, using Cooper Medium.

House of Cards

House of Cards is a fantastic depiction of the pragmatic and manipulative nature of politics, and thanks to the brilliant acting of Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright, we all fell in love with it.

The font type used for the title is Bourgeois, designed by Jonathan Barnbrook and Marcus Leis Allion.

Peaky Blinders

Peaky Blinders is a clever and intense gangster drama, telling the story of the famous Romani/Irish gang and its leader Tommy Shelby, played by Cillian Murphy. The gang got its unusual name due to the sewed razor blades in their caps and were terrorising the streets of Birmingham around the turn of the 20th century.

The font used resembles Clarendon Condensed, and was styled to suit the mood of the show.

The X Files

And now, the all time classic science fiction drama, The X-Files. This cult series has become one of the hallmarks of the 90s with its endless conspiracy theories and spiritual events.

Together with the iconic opening sequence, the title font FF Trixie Heavy is one of the most recognisable of all time.

The IT Crowd

The glory days of the IT Crowd sitcom series are long gone, but we still remember the geeky trio of Jen, Moss and Roy. The 8-bit opening is fun and quirky, with its catchy opening tune.

The logo font resembles SF Digital Readout Pro, designed by Derek Vogelpohl and Roger S. Nelsson.

The Knick

Another great period drama, The Knick, tells us the story about the Knickerbocker Hospital and its innovative surgeon Dr. John W. Thackery. Though it may sound uplifting, the story turns out to be very dark and depressive.

The font used for the title logo is Helvetica Rounded, available for free download.

Boardwalk Empire

Boardwalk Empire is a masterpiece show about the dawn of Prohibition, directed by Terence Winter and Martin Scorsese. The footage is rich and sinister and the acting of Steve Buscemi completely immersed us in the world of gangsters in Atlantic City.

The closest font to the one used for Boardwalk Empire’s logo, is Knockout.

Hannibal

The dark and thrilling “Hannibal” returned in 2013 in the form of a TV show, with Mads Mikkelsen playing the role of Dr. Hannibal Lecter. The new twist on the characters complimented the classic movie and presented the story in a new, stylish manner.

The title font is similar to Reservation Wide Black, with NN connected to create an illusion of a sharp knife.
