Much loved by millions of fans worldwide, The Hobbit has also inspired illustrators and designers to create some truly stunning minimalist artwork. These are just some of the amazing posters we’ve seen so far…
Bilbo Baggins
Bilbo’s mush gets the minimalist treatment by American artist ~BennyJayKay on deviantART. Ben absolutely loved The Hobbit movie. He used Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop to create his poster.

Lonely Mountain
The brilliantly geeky movie posters by Harshness – aka Portland artist Nicholas Hyde – were showcased by WIRED last year. Nicholas has applied his exquisite minimalist style to many popular fantasy/sci-fi movies, TV shows and video games such as Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Legend of Zelda and The Lord of the Rings.

Smaug Dragon
Audiences have only briefly glimpsed Smaug in Peter Jackson’s movie trilogy so far, so Ohio artist and graphic designer Jon E. Allen (www.joneallen.com) has taken this opportunity to show us more of the Lonely Mountain’s resident dragon. Jon’s portfolio includes other striking alternative movie poster work for the likes of Army of Darkness, Batman Begins, Blade Runner, Dawn of the Dead, Star Wars and many more.

The Shire
A minimalist take on Bilbo Baggins’ home in the Shire. Society6 are selling Matt Humphrey’s artwork as fine art prints, iPad cases, iPad skins, T-shirts, hoodies and tote bags.

Thorin’s Company
Another great example of Matt Humphrey’s work, this time introducing the members of Thorin’s adventurous Company. Look at that cute little Halfling there, standing next to Gandalf the Grey on the top left of the party. Bilbo would be small, only a child to your eyes.

Love these especially The Shire one.
Where the books are so filled with intricate detail its nice that by contrast the artwork is so simple and yet just as effective and easily recognisable as part of the Lord of the Rings/Hobbit series
This style of poster is really eye-catching, it’s a wonder people don’t use it for official posters!
The film was really good, however I thought it was a bit too long. And my favourite poster listed in this article is probably the ‘Bilbo Baggins’ one 🙂
These are pretty cool, I’ll need to see if I can convince the wife to get one in the house…she did like the movie so there’s a chance
Good luck! I’d love one myself.
These are some great modern works of a truly awesome film! My favourite is BennyJayKay of Bilbo Baggins! Cant wait to get it on DVD!
i think the images are very interesting. very art house design.
My favourite is Smaug Dragon and I think Bilbo Baggins one looks like he belongs in the 60s woodstock era – still a great poster mind.
They are all good though.
I really like the minimalist style of these my favorite has to be Lonely Mountain.
Thorin’s Company is my favourite, love the humour, and how you can see what it is at a glance.
