Village Green 2015 is a multi-art form and music festival, produced by Metal Culture in the picturesque grounds of a beautiful Victorian park in Chalkwell, Southend on Sea on 11th July 11am-10pm.
With eight different stages, green spaces, rose gardens, cricket pitches, pathways and marketplaces offer up a pot-pourri of international music acts, theatre, spoken word, poetry, lindy-hop/ fox trot lessons and displays, outdoor arts, circus and cabaret, vintage acts, musical theatre, visual arts, comedy, improvisation, film, workshops and games all set against the backdrop of the enigmatic estuary. Only six years ago Village Green Festival was a small scale celebration of the arts and music of Southend. Now, however, it regularly attracts over 20,000 festival goers.
2015 will see more programming for early years and young children. We are introducing a new Games Tent for kids and adults alike, with activities such as Poetry Bingo, Musical Flares and a MASSIVE Pass the Parcel that will involve forfeits! The festival will also see the return of the Teen Stage, curated by local teenagers working in partnership with South Essex College.
Musical highlights include one of the most distinctive and versatile musical voices today, Nitin Sawhney; local legend Snowboy and the Latin Section, who will be celebrating their 30th anniversary at Village Green; Hollie Cook, daughter of Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook, who recently supported the Stone Roses on their reunion tour; Essex-based break-through band, Asylums; Roland Gift of Fine Young Cannibals (featuring local lad Dave Randall ‘of Faithless’ fame) and platinum-selling 2-tone veterans, The Selecter.
