These days, sadly not many people can say they haven’t been affected by cancer, either directly or within circles of family and friends. Paula Barrell, Senior Accounts Manager and Bespoke Estimator at Solopress, knows only too well the sadness cancer brings to the door having suffered the loss of one too many family members.

Paula, who currently has an aunt bravely battling lymphatic and lung cancers, decided to put her heart and soul into being proactive in honour of her loved ones.

Sending off for her fundraising pack, Paula decided to get Solopress involved by hosting their own World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday 26th September 2014.

Macmillan – Supporting, Fundraising And Beyond

The essential work carried out by Macmillan Cancer Support continues,  24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Without this vital support, many families would be left isolated and alone to suffer in silence at the hands of Cancer.

The Coffee Mornings’ Growing Success Story

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s most successful fundraising event to date.  It works simply by getting people across the UK to hold a coffee morning and raise money for those living with cancer.

According to Macmillan’s records, in 2013, 154,000 people signed up, raising in excess of a record £20 million.

Macmillan’s ethos is that nobody should ever have to face cancer alone. All the money raised from their events goes towards providing vital support and help for sufferers and their relatives, from the moment of diagnosis, though treatment and beyond.

Let ‘Em Eat Cake

Paula arrived at Solopress HQ in Southend this morning, raring to go, carefully carrying an array of dishes and tupperware filled with a mouthwatering array of home baked cakes.

She had enlisted the help of staff, friends and family from all over the South Essex area, with some even coming from as far as the Welsh Valleys.

Solopress has discovered some hidden talents –  Mary Berry will be proud!

A stunning variety of donated cakes on offer were complimented beautifully by a mixture of flavoured coffees and chocolate drinks.

With so many mouthwatering goodies on offer, there were queues…

…and a small feeding frenzy ensued!

Smiles All Round

With the collection box as full as many staff members tummies, it’s been a very successful coffee morning.

Aside from the financial benefits enabling Macmillan to continue their work;  the coffee mornings are all about promoting a real sense of community. They provide the opportunity for the unity of  a warm and caring mixture of people, each one able to share their own stories and reflect on their experiences – thus promoting the ethos of Macmillan Cancer Support perfectly –  nobody should ever feel like they are on their own with cancer.

Today at Solopress, the community spirit was plain for all to see; where the love and warmth was flowing as much as the coffee and cash. (We also raised £163.79 for a great cause!)
