Michael Paulus draws famous cartoon characters from our childhoods and reveals their anatomy underneath.
The drawings were created by placing the characters original sketches on a translucent, hinged panel. An ink drawing of the skeletal system is revealed once the panel is lifted.
The images were created for Paulus’ character study entitled ‘Skeletal Systems‘ in which he revealed our most beloved cartoon characters in their barest forms.
Paulus explained the idea behind the sketches,
“I wanted to take a select few of these popular characters and render their skeletal systems as I imagined they might look if one truly had eye sockets hald the size of its head, or fingerless hands, or free comprising 60% of its body mass.”
Many years ago, children’s television begun with The Magic Roundabout, The Muppets, Clangers and Play School. Then came Cartoon Network, Fox Kids and Nickelodeon television channels solely dedicated to entertaining kids.
Adults, who grew up with the characters shown above, can see what their favourite cartoons looked like had they been real people.
That is truly awesome. I’d love to do something like this, it’s so unique and differnt. Out of the box art
Awesome, one of those great ideas you wished you’d have thought of yourself!
Can’t stop looking at these – not sure I can ever see Pikachu or Snoopy in the same way now. Never thought about how weird some of the skeletons would look, or how scary!
Kind of bizarre! A strange thing to be perusing, yet I did anyway. Is it me or do Tweety Pie and Buttercup look almost the same?
Very true Lindsey! Odd that cartoons have such BIG bug eyes…
